Design Process

  • Discuss concept with client and clarify their business needs.

  • Conduct competitor research on popular dating apps

    • e.g., Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge

  • Create a user flow and an app navigation flow based on business needs and competitor research

  • Create homescreen wireframe options to present to the client

  • Create color palette options to present to the client

  • Create wireframes and apply to an InVision prototype

  • Write a tech doc that explains the app’s functionality, screen by screen

  • Present InVision to developers and PM to discuss functionality and user flow.

    • The developers also discuss any functionalities that may slow down the timeline.

  • Make adjustments to InVision and tech doc based on internal feedback

  • Present InVision to clients

  • Make adjustments to InVision and tech doc based on client feedback

  • Handoff design assets to developers

Client Goals

  •  Create a dating app for iOS and Android devices that encourages authenticity and deeper connections.

  • Achieve this authenticity by using a 22 second video to create first impressions

  • This video cannot be uploaded from the user’s camera roll, and is recorded within the app.

    • There are no video filters or opportunities to doctor the video.

  • While browsing other profiles, users are only able to see the profile’s video, name, age, and location.

  • If two users “like” each other (make a connection), each user will be able to view the other’s full profile, unlocking additional photos and a written bio.

  • Incorporate in app purchases (IAP) and subscription tiers to create different levels of user experiences.

    • The IAP and subscription options were presented by the client after the initial app designs were created

Competitor Research
Findings

  • Due to trademark, this app would not be able to incorporate the swipe left/right functionality

  • Users will need to "like" or "dislike" a profile to progress to the next profile with button taps

  • Users are able to navigate profiles by viewing one at a time or by viewing multiple profiles in a grid or list

  • Onboarding flow presents one or two steps in the process per screen

  • Users should see where they are in the onboarding process with a progress bar
